CHEER COACH BIO'S
Jessica Tolonen - Varsity Head Coach
Coach Jessica Tolonen enters her 8th year coaching with the Clawson Mavericks.
Jessica has been involved with organized sports & cheer for over 35 years as
both a player and coach. Jessica currently coaches cheer for Troy School
District. She spent 1 year as the Head Coach of the Varsity
Dance Team at CHS, 3 years with Clawson Mavericks Pep Squad as an Assistant
Coach, 2 years as Head Coach with Clawson Mavericks Freshman Squad and 3 years
as Head Coach with Clawson Mavericks Varsity Squad. While coaching the Freshman
Squad, Jessica’s team placed 2nd both years at the OMYFA Cheer-Off Competition
in 2006 and 2007. In 2010 Jessica’s Varsity Squad placed 3rd in both the cheer
round and the dance round at the OMYFA Cheer-Off. One of her cheerleaders also
received the OMYFA Spirit Award in 2010. Jessica currently serves as the
Cheerleading General Manager of the Clawson Mavericks Youth Football & Cheer
Organization. Jessica has extensive knowledge in stunting and has introduced
and mastered new stunts at all levels. Safety is very important to Jessica as
she believes stunting should start out basic. A clean simple stunt is much
better than a sloppy advanced stunt. Many of Jessica’s cheerleaders have
continued their careers at the Varsity high school level. Including Sarah
Stephenson, Cory Martin, Dallas Goulait, Bria Hunt & Karly Krippin. Coach
Tolonen and her husband, Jim, have two daughters, Aby (12) who has been
acheering for the Mavericks for the past 8 years and Audrey (1) a cheerleader in
the making.
Jessica Morgan - JV Head Coach
Jessica started cheering when she moved to Clawson for the Clawson Middle School
Team. Shecheered for 2 years at the middle school level. Her
Freshman year of High School she cheered for the Clawson JV Squad where they
placed at league. Her Sophomore and Junior years she cheered for the Clawson
Varsity Squad. Through attending 3 cheer camps and performing at many
competitions she learned what cheer was really about, teamwork, friendships, and
dedication! In 1998 & 1999 she helped out with Mavericks Flag and JV
squads for Cheer-Off. More recently she was the Head Coach for Flag for
the 2008 season and the Assistant Coach for Freshmen for the 2010 season.
For the Freshman season they won 1st place in the Cheer Round at the Cheer-Off
Competition. This year Jessica is thrilled to be moving up with the girls
once again to JV!
Heather DeMare - Freshman Head Coach
Head coach Heather DeMare is entering her 2nd
year of coaching with the Clawson Mavericks. Heather has been involved in
cheerleading for 28 years as both a player and a coach. As a cheerleader she was
a UCA All Star cheerleader traveling to London to participate in the New Years
day parade. She also coached for the
Warren Jet Youth Cheer Team, Center Line High School JV and Varsity Squad.
Heather is also a member of the
Maverick board. Coach Heather and her husband Joe have 2 girls Hailea (7)
and Allison (4).
Karen Levitt - Flag Head Coach
Head Coach Karen Levitt is entering her 3rd year of coaching with the Clawson
Mavericks. Karen has been involved in cheerleading/drill team for 27 years
as both a player and a coach and was a member of a shate championship drill team
in high school. Coach Karen lives in Clawson with her fiance, Todd
Shattuck (Clawson Maverick Football GM) and their children, Elizabeth (11),
Meghan (8) Levitt and corbin Shattuck (6).
